UNITED METHODIST WOMEN (UMW)What is the United Methodist Women, aka. UMW? The United Methodist Women is a ministry organized by women for women to give them a place to grow closer to Christ through study, service, worship and fellowship with others within the safety and comfortable confines of the church. Who can be a part of this ministry?
How can I participate? There are monthly circle meetings at different times which makes it easy to find one that fits for you.
What kinds of things does the UMW do? As well as fellowshipping together UMW gives strong support to the church . They provide funeral dinners for the immediate families of church members. The ladies of United Methodist Women pledge each year to support mission projects such as McCurdy Mission School in Espinola, NM as well as many others. They also provide scholarships to the Emmaus and Women’s Retreats, they give youth scholarships and give to UMCOR the branch of the United Methodist Church that gives aid nation wide during such crises as floods, fires and tornados. Their main fund raiser is bake sales on the second Sunday of each month. It’s worth checking this out as the goodies are all home-made and available at both sanctuaries. It’s not all study and mission work however, members of UMW have a lot of fun too. They have a summer picnic, a Christmas brunch, a celebration for graduating seniors, and a most special luncheon to honor members who are 80 and over. If you are new to this church or just visiting we invite you to attend any or all of our events and circles. For more information contact UMW president, Irma Leach at 326-4107 or the church office 327-0363. |
